‘They are beautiful allegories of the maturity of the artist in freedom, they are the writing of a free walk, they are the furtive and happy flight of that child who had to grow up one day’.

Carlos's skill lies, now, in the way he has been able to construct a visuality that plays, at ease, in the interstices or borderline zones. It is in this ‘conflictive’ and ‘conflicted’ place that this sort of ornamental ornithology earns the status of a work of art. They are beautiful, no doubt; they are attractive, many of them; they are enigmatic, for a while; they are pleasing, a lot; but they are, above all, the trophy of a grammar that is articulated on the foundations of honesty and personal liberation. Ultimately, these birds are nothing more than Carlos' own alter-ego. They are tinged with a minimalist touch or an approximation to the polished and slippery surfaces of Brancusi; however, I believe, contrary to what most people might presume, that they are the most finished expression of a certain baroque impulse that has always inhabited not only his work but also the artist's own personality.

La habilidad de Carlos reside, ahora, en el modo cómo ha sabido construir una visualidad que juega, a sus anchas, en los intersticios o zonas limítrofes. Es en ese lugar “conflictivo” y “conflictuado” desde donde esta suerte de ornitología ornamental se granjea el estatuto de la obra de arte. Son bellos, sin duda; son atrayentes, muchos; son
enigmáticos, un rato; son complacientes, mucho; pero son, por encima de todo, el trofeo a una gramática que se articula sobre los fundamentos de la honestidad y de la liberación personal. A la larga estas aves no son más que el propio alter-ego de Carlos. Se les advierten matizadas por un deje minimalista o una aproximación a las superficies pulidas y escurridizas a lo Brancusi; sin embargo, estimo, contrario a lo que pudiera presumirse por la mayoría, que ellas son la expresión más acabada de cierta pulsión barroca que de siempre ha habitado no solo en su obra sino en la propia personalidad del artista.
